Here’s what we recommend doing to keep your furniture looking fresh as day one. We’ve organised these tips by material and finish — but whatever you do, never ever place hot pans or pots directly on the surface.
Solid wood & veneer
Solid wood and veneer furniture tends to be finished with lacquer, stain, oil, or wax. Whatever the finish, coasters are your best friend. Never place hot items (like coffee mugs), or cold items (like beer bottles with condensation on it) directly onto the surface. If you spill anything, wipe it up immediately.
If it’s finished with oil or wax, you should re-oil it once every 6 to 12 months to keep it looking new.
Laminates are the easiest to maintain out of all the options. Never place hot items like takeaway containers or hot mugs directly on the surface.
Polyurethane & spray paint
Again, no hot and cold items directly on the surface. Also watch out for chemicals such as nail polish remover — the acetone in it will strip the paint.
